I’m not the kind of girl to behave. I’m really very cruel. But men never rant and rave. Because I am beautiful.

Louisa, Duchess of St Albans (c.1812). Anne Mee nee Foldsone (British, 1770/1775-1851).

Mee completed an important series of full-length large miniatures portraying fashionable society ladies for the Prince Regent (later George IV) who admired her work. The series was engraved as ‘The Gallery of Beauties of George III,’ a reference to the earlier series of court beauties painted by Lely and Kneller. Louisa, Duchess of St Albans (1777-1816) is holding an open letter in her hand before a moonlit sea.
